Candidate for Fairfax County School Board At-Large

Every Student. Every Voice. Every Future.

Strong Schools · Engaged Communities · Safe & Inclusive Schools

I’m Debbie Kilpatrick. I believe every student deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed, and every family, educator, and community deserves a voice in the future of our schools.

Why I’m running

“I know what it means to have limited opportunities. I also know what can happen when someone opens a door.”

From limited opportunity to a lifetime of service

I grew up in a small rural community in Alabama where opportunities for education beyond high school were limited. After high school, I worked in a cotton mill making T-shirts. Then an opportunity to work for a state government agency opened another door, and later I served in the U.S. Army Reserves.

For more than 25 years, Fairfax County has been home to my family. I spent 20 years as an FCPS substitute teacher and decades as a PTA leader, community advocate, and civic leader. Now I’m ready to bring that experience to the School Board.

My vision

A Fairfax County where every student has the opportunity to thrive

I envision Fairfax County Public Schools as a school system where every student is known, supported, challenged, and prepared for the future. A school system where:

Every student has opportunity.

Every family has a voice.

Every educator has support.

Every school is safe and welcoming.

Every community is valued.

My four priorities

A student-centered, community-driven agenda
